A rape undertrial died allegedly of overdose of medical pills at the Colvale jail. The deceased, identified as Bala Naik, was admitted in the North Goa District Hospital, Mapusa on Thursday morning. Jail sources informed that Naik who was a diabetic patient was treated at the district hospital and sent back to the prison.
Sources informed that he was later found unconscious in his prison cell. Jail authorities rushed him to the district hospital but he was declared brought dead.The body has been preserved in the morgue at the Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim. Mapusa Police have registered an unnatural death.
