According to panchayat sources, outgoing sarpanch Ganesh Gaonkar had recently submitted his resignation and the Director of Panchayats had convened a meeting to elect a new sarpanch.
Last year, five panch members of Shristhal panchayat had joined hands to oust then sarpanch Devendra Naik and Ganesh Gaonkar was later elected sarpanch.
Pandurang Gaonkar is also expected to serve for a year, after which panch Ramu Naik is likely to be elected as sarpanch for the remaining period of the Shristhal panchayat.
Soon after his election, newly elected sarpanch, Pandurang Gaonkar, said residents of Shristhal are still suffering from an adequate water supply, although the Chapoli Dam is located in the village.
He assured to work with Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and former minister Ramesh Tawadkar to resolve water supply issue, while also promising to attend to electricity supply, roads and other development work in the village.
