Even after an aggressive vaccination campaign and tika utsavs held at various places in Goa, the State is lagging behind in offering full protection to its citizens, as most of the people have taken only their first dose. Commenting on the vaccination status in Goa, the State immunization officer Dr Rajendra Borkar said on Saturday that around eight lakh covid vaccinations have been administered till date. “However, only one lakh people have been administered both the doses and seven lakh people have taken their first dose. We still have to do a lot of work in this direction,” said Dr Borkar, appealing to the public to take both the doses without fail. “It is only after a person takes both the doses in appropriate proportion that he gets fully protected. This helps in reducing hospitalization and deaths. Our families stay protected too,” said the State immunisation officer. Requesting the people to take their second dose on time in order to strengthen the battle against Covid-19, Dr Borkar mentioned that even those who do not have identity cards can also go to the vaccination centres and register their names for the vaccine. Even these people are accommodated in the vaccination drive along with the Nepalis living in Goa, he added.
