CANACONA
A 13-year old girl from Galgibaga was injured after two two-wheelers collided with each other under the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Highway road (Galgibaga bridge) on Thursday evening.
According to reports, the mishap took place at the five-road junction and the injured girl was a pillion rider on the two-wheeler proceeding from the Magdal direction, while the another two-wheeler was travelling from the Tarir road.
Locals have said this is the eighth accident under the bridge and the junction has become an accident-prone zone.
“In the absence of warning signboards, it becomes very difficult for motorists, especially those unfamiliar with the routes, and they end up colliding with oncoming vehicles,” said a resident.
“We have demanded speed breakers on all roads at the junction, but authorities are yet to respond to our pleas.”
“Galgibaga is a tourist destination and is frequented by locals and visitors, both domestic and foreign. This junction just below the Galgibaga bridge the Manohar Parrikar Canacona Bypass Highway at Galgibaga has become treacherous for motorists and authorities need to act soon,” the resident added.
