MARGAO: Varca Veterans made it to the finals after defeating Carmona Veterans 4-1 in the Benaulim Constituency 8-a-side football tournament, organised by United Sports Club of Seraulim, at panchayat ground Seraulim.
Varca opened their account through Francis Rodrigues in the very third minute of the first half when he ran down the left flank and placed the ball that kept the goalkeeper standing.
Carmona then took charge of the game and were seen dominating. Their efforts bore fruits in the 13th minute when Neil D'Cruz flew high and header the ball into the far corner of the goal after receiving a through pass from Quintos D'Cruz giving no chance to the goalkeeper under the Varca bar.
At the lemon time the score read 1-1.
The second half was equally shared by both teams however Varca was the one to take the lead in the 42nd minute when Hendry Fernandes power-packed shot brushed the feet of Wilford Fernandes and entered the goal. Varca thereafter scored two more quick goals through Succoro Pereira and Tension Rosa in the 46th and 48th minute respectively.
The finals are slated for February 4 at 5 pm.
