A Memorandum of Understanding establishing “V. M. Salgaocar Chair in Wild Life Studies” was signed between Goa University and V. M. Salgaocar Trust recently. The MoU was signed by Prof Varun Sahni, Vice Chancellor, Goa University and Dattaraj Salgaocar, Chairman, V.M. Salgaocar Trust respectively.
Under the MOU, “V. M. Salgaocar Chair in Wildlife Studies” has been established in the name of the Founder of V M Salgaocar Corporation, V. M. Salgaocar under the Visiting Research Professor Programme of Goa University. The chair will focus on research in wildlife, flora & fauna and conservation & habitat management. An eminent and renowned person in the field of wildlife studies would also be selected as the visiting Professor of the VM Salgaocar Chair in Wildlife Studies.
In addition to the Chair, the VM Salgaocar Trust will also support one Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (PDF), engaged in wildlife studies. VM Salgaocar (PDF) will undertake wildlife research, training students in wildlife, flora & fauna, conservation & habitat management, conduct of workshops, teaching, etc. The PDF will also publish research papers in peer-reviewed journals. VM Salgaocar Trust would financially contribute to Goa University for these activities and programmes and has already contributed for the current year.
