CANACONA
Karnataka Excise intercepted a truck transporting 120 liquor (IMFL) cartons disguised as medical waste at the Majali check post in Karwar in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The truck had left Mapusa and was proceeding to Bengaluru when it was intercepted by a Karnataka excise team stationed at the Majali check post in Karnataka at about 1 am on Wednesday.

The truck had already crossed the Goa’s check post at Polem and when the Karnataka excise team enquired about the cargo, they were reportedly told that the truck was transporting medical waste to Bengaluru.

Suspecting something fishy, the excise team swiftly began to verify the cargo and after initially finding a few boxes with some medical contents, discovered a large number of liquor boxes also stacked in the container.

The truck along with the driver and co-driver were detained immediately and after a thorough check, the Karnataka excise team recovered 120 cartons of different brands of IMFL.

Questions are being raised as to how the liquor consignment escaped the attention of the excise team posted at the State’s border at Polem.
