‘Assn secy transferred at MLA’s behest’

The Electricity Department Junior Engineer’s Association (EDJEA) condemned the attempts to vilify and harass association members after its secretary was unceremoniously transferred by a MLA last year.

MAPUSA:  
“The General Secretary of the association, Savio Fernandes was transferred from the division for the simple reason that he never met his constituency MLA, though a government circular prohibits a junior engineer from meeting any VIP in the government officially,” said Balkrishna Naik, president of the EDJEA.   
It may be recalled that Fernandes was suddenly transferred from Mapusa division to Tivim sub-station last year in some controversial circumstances.   
The EDJEA president further said only junior engineers were being transferred, while the higher officers continued to serve at the same post for more than five years.   
“It is felt that junior engineers and assistant engineers should be transferred every five years and executive engineers every three years. This will help to a certain extent to serve the public better and misusing discretionary powers,” Naik said.
