Speaking to The Goan, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Project Officer, Nagraj Honnekari said the school items for students would be delivered to schools by the second week of May.
“As soon as schools start, these items will be distributed to students,” said Honnekari.
“Under Sarva Siksha Abhiyan, students are given books and textbooks, while the Directorate of Education gets financial assistance to provide uniforms to the students. Necessary arrangements have been made and all the items will be delivered to schools by the second week of May,”
he added.
Stating that a truckload of books and textbooks arrives in the state everyday, Honnekari said: “Schools in Sanguem and Canacona talukas have already been supplied with the school items, while other schools in the state will soon get these materials. In comparison to the previous academic year, all procedures have been taken up well in advance.”
Stating that the education department also provides raincoats and uniforms to students in government schools, Honnekari said the responsibility for school uniforms has been entrusted to the ‘Khadi Gramudhyog’.   “Students will also be given school uniforms during the start of the academic year,” informed Honnekari.
