Amid a fresh probe by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the death of BJP loyalist Sonali Phogat, prime accused Sudhir Sangwan has purportedly passed the buck on Phogat claiming she had an ‘urge’ to take drugs before hitting the dance floor on the night of August 22.
Sangwan, who along with co-accused Sukhwinder Singh are lodged in judicial lock-up, has told the investigators that Phogat ordered Methylenedioxymethamphetamine in the resort where they checked-in upon arrival from Gurugram.
“When the trio landed in Goa, they had a desire to get high using MDMA drugs. Phogat had an urge to take drugs before going on the dance floor. Her health deteriorated after an overdose,” an official said, quoting the confession.
The Goan, in its comprehensive coverage on the mysterious death, had earlier reported that the two accused purchased drugs from the resort’s room boy at a cost of Rs 12,000. After snorting drugs, the accused hid the remaining drugs in a packaged drinking water bottle.
At Curlies, Phogat and her accused reserved a table near the dance floor and ordered a beer, orange juice, cocktail, cake, and a bottle of water.
“The three then took drugs alternately but then Phogat couldn’t handle it any longer. She vomited. The accused escorted her to the ladies restroom twice before she died of suspected overdose,” he said. The plastic bottle containing the remaining MDMA was seized by the Anjuna police in a raid conducted about three days subsequent to her death.
The CBI will be interrogating the accused as the team is camping in Goa since taking over the probe from Goa Police last week.
On Wednesday, the CBI sleuths held a preliminary discussion with forensic doctors of Goa Medical College. The experts did not give their final opinion citing that viscera report is pending.
