Fourteen of the 17 wagons of the fully loaded goods train which derailed between Sonaulim and Dudhsagar stations in the Braganza Ghat section of the Hubballi Division on Friday have been re-railed.

The 58 bogie train had derailed during the wee hours of Friday morning, disrupting train services along the route.

“Immediate measures were taken to restore the affected section and minimise the impact on rail operations. As of now, 14 out of the 17 derailed wagons have been re-railed, and the process of re-railing the remaining 3 wagons is underway,” SWR Chief PRO Dr Manjunath Kanmadi said.

“The restoration work is progressing rapidly and is expected to be given fit for train movement by Sunday morning.”

With the Shalimar-Vasco Express short-terminated at SSS Hubballi railway station on Saturday on account of the rail mishap, around 27 buses were arranged by SWR authorities to transport about 800 passengers to Vasco.

SWR General Manager Arvind Srivastava and other senior officers have been present at the location and are monitoring the restoration works.
