Goa's lung health screening programme powered by AI technology and being implemented by the health department in partnership with Qure.ai and @AstraZeneca , has helped detect eight cases of lung cancer early, enabling better treatment.
The comprehensive AI-powered lung screening is now accessible at several Primary Health Centres, the two district hospitals in Mapusa and Margao and also at the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
According to Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, over 30,000 people from across the State have already been screened under this programme thus far, including people from underserved areas.
Rane said, by integrating cutting-edge AI technology, access to the public health system has become equitable. Also, it helps early diagnosis thus increasing survival chances of those patients.
With partnerships, we’re working to shape a better and stronger public healthcare system by innovation, Rane added.
Goa, meanwhile, is the first State in India to implement AI-powered lung cancer screening in collaboration with AstraZeneca and Qure.ai and the facility is introduced in 19 government facilities.
It helps detect lung cancer in the early stages through routine X-rays and the qXR AI system assists in identifying abnormalities, supporting the work of radiologists.
