With around 2,000 cases seeking regularisation of unauthorised structures pending with the authorities, Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira on Friday discussed the matter with senior bureaucrats in order to put a system in place to dispose of the huge backlog of applications.
Secretary, Revenue and Law, Sandeep Jacques was invited by the Minister at his Friday darbar at the South District Collectorate for discussion on the contentious issue with top officials, including District Collector, Asvin Chandru, Additional Collector, Srinet Kothawale, Additional Collectors Uday Prabhudesai and Nipanekar to streamline the process of regularisation and dispose of the pending cases expeditiously.
Sequeira later told the media that the process for streamlining the regularisation of the unauthorised structures has been set in motion, exuding confidence that the process would soon bear fruit.
“There are around 2,000 cases pending with the authorities seeking regularisation of unauthorised structures. I have just tried to get the system streamlined so that the pending cases are disposed of at the earliest,” he said.
He added: “We are trying to cut short the procedure and ensure that the cases are disposed of as fast as possible. These are the cases wherein the structures are located in the property of the individuals.”
On the issue of the new Borim Bridge, Sequeira said that the planned meeting could not take place in the current week in view of the Christmas festivities, adding the meeting to zero in on the right alignment will take place in the new year.
“One thing is clear that there is no issue over the construction of a new Borim bridge. The issue to be resolved is over the alignment. I want to assure everyone that I will not allow a single house to be demolished to make way for the new bridge.”
