Saddled with the problem of irregular water supply, the Arpora-Nagoa gram sabha on Sunday suggested repair of the existing underground water storage tank which will take care of water needs of the entire village.
The villagers also lamented about the bad condition of roads and demanded that the work on repair of the roads be taken up on top priority. The gram sabha also constituted the crucial Bio-diversity Management Committee as directed by the Director of Panchayats while the decision on the remaining village committees will be taken up at the next gram sabha meeting.
A resident of Arpora, Peter D’Souza moved a proposal to reconstruct an underground water tank near the St Joseph High School to take care of water needs of the village. He said the water tank which was constructed some years back started to leak as soon as it was commissioned. “The panchayat should approach the concerned authorities and take up work to repair and reconstruct the tank. The water stored in the tank is enough to take care of the needs of the entire village,” D’Souza said.
Sarpanch Roshan Redkar assured the gram sabha to discuss the proposal of repairing the water tank with the PWD and take it forward. Several locals complained about the bad condition of roads in the village. They urged the panchayat to immediately take up the repair work of the roads on top priority. The sarpanch said the panchayat will take up the patch-up work of the internal roads while the PWD will be instructed to carry out repair of the major district roads that run through the village.
The villagers also expressed their unhappiness over parking of vehicles along the main roads. They said although the roads have been widened people have started parking vehicles by the roadside which defeats the whole purpose of road widening. The sarpanch, however, expressed helplessness over taking action against the nuisance of parking along the roadside.
