Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Ltd (IPSCDL) has announced that the crucial road section in Bhatlem from the Ram Mandir to the SFX Chapel at Portais will be fully closed and inaccessible to residents and vehicle users from Friday to Sunday.
The closure of the road is necessary as critical work of interconnecting sewerage chambers to the old line is being taken up, it said.
"The stretch, spanning from Ram Mandir to Sitabai Complex, will be completely closed to all vehicular movement from February 21 (Friday) to February 25 (Sunday). During this period, residents and commuters will not have access to the road and alternative routes will have to be used," IPSCDL said in a press release.
However, to minimize inconvenience, traffic diversions have been suggested for commuters travelling from St Inez and Taleigao to the 4 Pillar Junction via Bhatlem who will have to take a diversion through Altinho. Similarly, those commuting from Panaji and St Cruz to Ram Mandir Junction should re-route via Rua de Ourem.
Meanwhile work on making the Cafe Bhonsle-National Theatre square along the TB Cunha Road into a pedestrian-friendly urban space has progressed and nearing completion.
The project is part of the initiative to enhance public spaces and improved urban aesthetics in the city.
The square is being re-developed with modern urban design principles even as the precinct’s heritage and cultural significance is being sought to be preserved while redesigning road and footpath and improving the drainage.
Upgrading footpaths with kerbs and granite flooring besides designating parking areas will streamline pedestrian movement in the entire area, IPSCDL said.
