The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Goa expressed strong discontent with Chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiah’s comment regarding the demolition of illegal structures in Sangolda, indicating it was inappropriate for him to intervene in Goa’s affairs, especially when they have failed to resolve water crisis in Bengaluru.
“He (CM Karnataka) should focus on the crises in his State, particularly the severe water shortage in Bengaluru. About the demolition of the illegal structures in Sangolda, the drive is being held in compliance with the Court directives,” party spokesperson Giriraj Pai Vernekar said.
Siddaramaiah had taken to X urging Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to stop the demolition till an alternative arrangement was in place while citing the displacement of several Kannadigas living in the property for years.
Vernekar stated that the Comunidade pursued legal action against the encroachers even as CM had already assured all possible assistance would be provided.
CMO sources meanwhile told The Goan that the government is not likely to intervene in the anti-encroachment drive since it’s a Court order. “How can the government overrule the Court? These structures were illegally built on the Comunidade property and its occupants were warned previously.
A total of 22 houses were demolished by authorities amid heavy police presence spanning two days on Friday-Saturday, in compliance with the Supreme Court order.
