'BJP govt caught in own web of lies over oxygen deaths issue'

PANAJI

Aam Aadmi Party on Thursday slammed the BJP Govt, and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane in particular, for the brazen lie stated in the Legislative Assembly that there were “no deaths due to oxygen shortage”. State Convenor Rahul Mhambre pointed out that the Govt had refused the demand in the High Court PIL for a judicial commision to enquire into the oxygen-deaths, claiming “it would demoralise the Corona warriors”, says an AAP press release.

“Why did the CM think such an investigation would demoralise doctors and nurses if there were no deaths due to shortage of oxygen supply. This itself exposes the BJP Govt which has been caught in its own web of lies. The BJP Govt was only hiding its own failures while making the shocking insinuation that Corona warriors may be to blame”, Mhambre charged.

Referring to the statement made by Health Minister in the current assembly session, Mhambre questioned whether this is the same health minister who, on May 11, had demanded a High Court investigation into his own Govt for oxygen-related deaths in GMC, adds the press release.

“The Health Minister and BJP Govt’s U-turn is incredulous. The health minister had himself raised the issue, and the CM had also admitted that “availability of medical oxygen in GMC might have caused some issues for the patients”. Everyone remembers the late-night BJP core committee meeting after which a 3-member committee was announced to look into the oxygen supply issue”, Mhambre said.

Mhambre said AAP continues to demand a court-monitored investigation into the oxygen deaths issue, as the Govt owes an apology as well as compensation to the families of those who lost loved ones due to the Govt’s failure to provide adequate oxygen. Mhambre accused the State Govt of being pressured by the Central Govt, which had issued a similar denial in the Rajya Sabha over the issue of deaths due to oxygen shortage, the press release concludes.
