Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's release on interim bail in the midst of the Lok Sabha election has sent a wave of uneasiness among leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), some of who have reacted to the development with ridiculous comments, the Aam Aadmi Party's Goa unit said on Saturday.
It will end their dictatorship or 'Salazarism' and this realisation has instilled uneasiness among BJP leaders, AAP's State president, Amit Palekar said at a press conference he addressed at the party office in Panaji along with Valmiki Naik, Dr Vibhas Prabhudesai and other leaders.
Palekar, a lawyer practicing criminal law, said the Apex Court's decision is a victory for truth and a historic decision.
"Generally, the court gives such verdicts only when it finds that the arrest of a person is flawed," Palekar said, adding that the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) had been amended by the BJP-led Centre in 2018 to make it next to impossible for the accused to get bail.
"Despite this, the court granted bail to Kejriwal," he said, adding that BJP leaders are uneasy.
He said, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's reaction to Kejriwal being granted bail exposes the uneasiness and some of the ridiculous statements made by their leaders in the State exposes their ignorance of how courts and the judiciary work.
"What you sow, you will reap. Whether it is dictatorship or Salazarism, it ends. BJP is the most corrupt party and their leaders too will have to go to jail sooner or later," Palekar said, adding that 'karma' will ensure it.
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in March in the alleged liquour policy bribery scam, the first serving chief minister to be arrested in India. He challenged the arrest as illegal before the Sessions Court and later the Delhi High Court, but didn't get any relieF and remained in judicial custody for nearly 50 days.
However, the Delhi Chief Minister took his challenge of the arrest which he claims is illegal before the Supreme Court of India where a bench after holding hearings over several days ultimately released him on 'interim bail" on Friday, citing the ongoing elections and giving him liberty to campaign, because hearing of his petition and passing a verdict will take time.
