The Goa government told the Bombay High Court at Goa that it would not be possible for the government to allot a counter to the Tourist Taxi Union-Vasco, as was sought by the Union prompting the High Court to take up the matter and seek a detailed affidavit from the State government.
Hearing a petition filed by the Tourist Taxi Union-Vasco that had sought a counter for themselves on similar lines to that of GoaMiles, the High Court has posted the matter for November 24 for final hearing.
The advocate General told the Court that it was “not possible for the State to make arrangement of a counter or part counter to be made available for the petitioner (Tourist Taxi Union).
“The petition would now be required to be heard,” the High Court bench of Justices Bharat Deshpande and G S Kulkarni, ruled.
Recently, despite stiff opposition from local taxi operators, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho inaugurated the GoaMiles app-based taxi counter at Dabolim airport.
He was of the opinion that app-based taxis were need of the hour as Goa was a tourist State and apart from Goans, tourist too were looking for app-based taxis.
