Power Minister Sudin Dhavalikar’s plan to introduce new electricity billing norms and to effect hike in power tariff came in for strong objection from the gram sabha members of Carmona and Assolna village Panchayats on Sunday.
The Power Minister had recently announced plans to introduce new billing norms, wherein consumer using less power will get 20 per cent discount. The plan has propose to levy 20 per cent extra for waste of power between 5 pm-9 am.
The issue took the centre stage at the Carmona gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Sandra Fernandes when members opposed any move by the Power department to hike in the power tariff.
Members adopted a resolution opposing any move that would only burden the common man.
Sarpanch Sandra informed that the resolution adopted at the gram sabha meeting will be forwarded to the Power department and the government for necessary action.
The issue also figured at the Assolna gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Isaca Fernandes. Since the Power Minister has proposed to introduce the new power billing norms from the month of December, members feared that the move will affect consumers during the peak festive season.
The members have urged the Sarpanch to send a letter to the power department objecting to the hike in power tariff and the new power billing norms.
