MARGAO
The controversial Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 was rejected by the villagers of Chandor at the gram sabha held on Sunday.
The issued figured at the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Edward D’Silva on Sunday, wherein members called for the scrapping of the Bhumiputra Bill in toto. This is the third time in the last one month that the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikaini Bill has been rejected by the Chandor panchayat -- the first time on August 15 at the special gram sabha and later by the panchayat body.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat would forward the gram sabha resolution to the government for appropriate action.
The issue over the setting up of MRF project in the village came up for discussion. The panchayat had proposed to set up the MRF at Fatramoll by shifting the existing MRF site from the market area.
However, residents of Fatramoll, who turned up for the gram sabha expressed their strong reservations to the proposal, and opposed the new site. Sarpanch Edward, who represents the Fatramoll ward, said he would go by the sentiments of his ward members.
Since there was also opposition to the existing MRF site, the panchayat has now decided to approach the local comunidade body for suitable land to set up the MRF.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat had earlier finalized a site on the comunidade land, but the proposal did not move forward over certain land issues. Since these land issues now stand resolved, the panchayat would make a proposal to the comunidade body to allocate land to set the MRF project.
