Chinchinim wants govt to handle issues of garbage & cattle pound

MARGAO
The Chinchinim gram sabha on Sunday resolved to ask the government to handle the burning issues of garbage and cattle pounds since the government has been collecting infrastructure tax.

At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Inacinha Rebello, members discussed the issue of Material Recovery Facility (MRF) and the location of a cattle pound in the village to tackle the burning issue of garbage and stray cattle.

During discussions, some of the members pointed out that the government should take up the work of garbage collection from the villages since it has been collection the infrastructure tax all along.

Members argued that the government should not thrust down on the local bodies the task of garbage handling when a  host of issues, including location of site for MRF facility, wet garbage disposal have come to the fore in the villages.

After much discussions, the members adopted a resolution to request the government to take up the work of garbage collection and disposal from the panchayat areas, with a suggestion that the panchayat would be willing to share 50 per cent cost of the project.

The members adopted a similar decision on the question of setting up cattle pounds in the village, saying though the government has introduce a scheme on cattle pounds to impound the stray cattle, land for the same is not available in the Panchayat jurisdiction.

The meeting, however, has decided to conduct a survey to identify the cattle in the village before taking a further decision on the issue.
