Civic elections should not be held on party lines: BJP workers

VASCO
BJP workers in the port town have raised concerns over the demand of the municipal elections to be held on party symbol by Vasco BJP Chief Deepak Naik.

Dabolim BJP Karyakarta Vinod Kinlekar while lauding BJP for the victory in ZP elections has objected to conducting municipal elections on the party symbol to avoid differences between party workers.

Kinlekar said that ZP elections were different form municipal elections because each ZP member represented more than two to three panchayats while municipal council elections were that of individual wards, and a party favouring one person for municipal elections would upset other workers and they would lose their morale.

"Usually the ward councillor is elected for his social work and is supported by many social groups, and having one person nominated as a party candidate could put his or her efforts in vain which is wrong," said Kinlekar.

"Some people who don't have even ten people supporting them may take advantage of their position in the party and get the victory in elections served on a platter without any groundwork or efforts and CM Pramod Sawant and Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho must take a call. The nomination of a readymade candidate can upset the sentiments of many supporters of deserving candidates," said Kinlekar.
