Stating that he was not craving for the post of chief minister, former deputy chief minister and Goa Forward Party President, Vijai Sardesai on Sunday said he was ready to compromise on anything to pack the BJP government home.
He also dismissed the trust deficit against his party as a bogey raised by a selective section of the society.
“I am not aiming to be the CM. Opposition unity is very much necessary and to achieve that if we need to compromise with someone we are ready to do it. We are ready to compromise on anything to send the BJP government home,” Sardesai said.
The GFP chief was speaking to the media on the sidelines of a football match in Assonora. Working President of GFP Kiran Kandolkar and other party office bearers were also present.
Continuing, Sardesai said that there is a need for those who are against this government to unite.
“All are against coal. So why don’t all join hands if they are against coal? The farmers at the national level have stunned the majority Modi government at the Centre by putting a united front. Why cannot there be unity in Goa?” he said.
He said the trust deficit raised against the Goa Forward Party was a matter of interpretation and it was done by selective people.
“Why did the people of Colvale give Kavita Kandolkar a comprehensive victory of more than 2,000 votes if there is a trust deficit against GFP? Everyone knew that her husband Kiran Kandolkar was with the Goa Forward and therefore she should have lost the election,” he argued.
“I am confident I will overcome the trust deficit. I have accepted I have committed a mistake and asked pardon with the people publicly,” he added.
The Goa Forward chief said the party had taken a conscious decision not to contest the Zilla Panchayat elections as it considered ZP as an unnecessary appendage and inconsequential election.
The BJP won the ZP election because of match-fixing. Certain leadership of the Congress is in Pramod Sawant’s pocket. If you win a semi-final it does not mean you win the final. This semi-final victory is just an eyewash. It is an inflated balloon which is going to bust,” he said.
He said Goa Forward would surely contest the civic election if it was held on party lines.
“Let the government decide whether they want to have the municipality election on party symbols. I am ready to fight at the party level as I fall in the municipal area,” he said.
