Claims & counterclaims over Anjuna loud music

MAPUSA

Senior police officials claimed that Anjuna police was maintaining a strict vigil and there was no loud music played along the Anjuna/Vagator coastline on Saturday.

However, a local resident and complainant Desmond Alvares maintained that music was very much going on full blast throughout the night and police although present at the site were mute spectators.

Alvares informed that the trance party that was organised bang on the Vagator beach went on without any hindrance while several other nightclubs played music beyond 2 am in the night.

“Although I gave a written complaint to the Anjuna Police about the noise pollution rules being flouted against the High Court order, no police officials contacted me nor were they able to stop the music along the coast,” Alvares said.

Chairman of Anjuna-Caisua Biodiversity Management Committee and a resident of Anjuna, Ramesh Naik also confirmed that music was indeed being played along the Anjuna-Vagator coastal belt and it was beyond permissible decibels.

He said the High Court direction against noise pollution appears to have made no impact against the nightclubs in the coastal village.

Another local from Vagator requesting anonymity informed that weekend parties were in full flow and non-stop music was being played throughout the night on Saturday.

However, senior police officials maintained that no music was being played in Anjuna-Vagator coastal belt.

“Anjuna Police conducted a rece along the coastal belt after receiving a complaint on Saturday night but no one was found playing music. School exams are also scheduled and therefore we don’t allow anyone to play music after 10 pm. Some people may hold parties with ear phone music so that nobody gets disturbed,” said a police officer but refused to come on record.

Incidentally, some club owners informed The Goan that it was silent Saturday night along the Calangute-Candolim coastal belt due to crackdown by police in the North coastal belt.

Mapusa SDPO, Jivba Dalvi informed that police officers have been asked to take strict action against all those club owners who play loud music.

“As far as possible we are following the High Court orders on sound pollution,” Dalvi said.
