The Congress on Tuesday demanded an independent probe, possibly by a retired judge into the controversial illegal bungalow within the precincts of the protected site at Old Goa, Congress leader Tulio D'Souza said.
"Let this probe not be conducted by government officials who will be under political pressure. It has to be conducted by an independent professional agency or by a retired judge. Only then will we get to the bottom of the truth in this matter," D'Souza said.
The Congress leader also said that the announcement made by Union Tourism Minister G Kishen Reddy (on December 4) that a probe had been started by the Archaeological Survey of India department into the illegal structure built by BJP national spokesperson Shaina NC's husband Manish Munot and Suvarna Suraj Lotlikar, was not enough and demanded a wider scope of the probe.
"G Kishen Reddy said that there would be a probe. We want to know whether this probe is only to bless all the illegalities, or it will be conducted by an independent professional agency to expose and bring to book. He has only talked about ASI because he is a Central minister," D'Souza said.
"We want a comprehensive probe covering Central as well as state government departments, town planning, CRZ authorities, and all departments which had given permission to this structure. All this should be inquired into and the probe should be a public one. People not only want the structure demolished, but Goan people also do not want such frauds and such illegalities," he added.
