One of the key tasks for the Congress ahead of the 2022 polls is to project itself as a confident outfit to the state's electorate so that voters could re-impose their faith in the party, AICC Goa Desk Incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao said on Wednesday.
Rao, who was speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the visit of All India Congress Committee-appointed senior poll observer P Chidambaram, also said that Chidambaram would work out a strategy for the polls ahead while adding that decisions on any possible alliance would be taken in the national capital.
"You can see that in each of our programmes for the last two days, there is a lot of enthusiasm. Workers are there, leaders are there. People want to join the Congress party. There is a good opportunity for us, but it is also our responsibility to see that we function properly, we organise ourselves properly," Rao told reporters.
"We have to campaign properly and effectively. We go to the people and win the hearts and confidence of the people. That is what people want. They want to see the confidence of Congress. They want to re-impose faith in Congress that we have to win their trust. That is left to us," Rao said.
Rao also said that after ten years of misrule, the mood of the people was that they had had enough of the BJP.
"Mood of the people in Goa is that they've had enough of the BJP, which has an illegitimate government in the first place. They do not have the mandate. It is an artificial mandate. The governance has been so bad. Today, there is a price rise, unemployment, and how many issues of Goa have been addressed. There is a law and order problem, women have been raped, killings are happening, so many issues about the linear projects, environment issues and no governance absolutely," Rao said.
"It is a corrupt government. The people of Goa are fed up and the Congress is the alternative. Last time, the people of Goa had blessed the Congress, this time, I am sure they will bless us in a bigger way because to take on this communal force, only the Congress can," he further said.
Speaking about the visit of P Chidambaram, Rao said that the Congress was focussing on all the constituencies in the state, but said that the decision to seal any alliance would be taken in Delhi.
"Chidambaram is here. He will strengthen the party in all 40 constituencies. All these issues will be discussed at the Delhi level and decided. But our aim is to see that we focus on all 40 constituencies, build up Congress in all 40 constituencies. All other issues will be discussed and decided later," he said.
