Days after Justice Mahesh Sonak recused himself from the matter, the Bombay High Court at Goa has listed for admission on Friday the petition of Girish Chodankar seeking a direction to the Speaker of the Goa legislative Assembly for an early hearing and verdict on the disqualification petitions against eight Congress legislators who switched over in September last year.
Chodankar's petition has been listed for admission before a bench of Justices B P Colabawalla and Bharat P Deshpande.
Petitions before Speaker Ramesh Tawardkar have been filed by Chodankar, GPCC president Amit Patkar and others against the eight MLAs who claimed to have split from the Congress and merged with the BJP in September last year barely months after the February 2022 general election.
The eight MLAs who jumped ship are: Digambar Kamat, Aleixo Sequeira, Michael Lobo, Delilah Lobo, Kedar Naik, Rajesh Phaldesai, Sankalp Amonkar and Rudolfo Fernandes.
