MARGAO
An inspection of gaddas, including fast food carts, by officials of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) at Margao’s old bus stand on Wednesday revealed that several carts have been operating without maintaining proper hygiene.

“The gaddas were not clean at all,” remarked an FDA officer as the team carried out the inspection of fast food carts at the bus stand on Wednesday evening. The gadda owners have been directed by FDA officials to improve hygiene standards or face strict action.

An FDA official stated that the team is actively inspecting the gaddas, especially to check hygiene conditions. “The situation is far from clean. We have instructed them to improve conditions. They will have to take corrective measures and act on the recommendations,” the officer said.

Notably, FDA officials have conducted similar inspections in the past alongside consumer rights activists, but with little success. Sources indicated that the FDA has been unable to take strict action against violators due to political pressure, often letting them off with warnings. “This time, we have not imposed any fines. However, we will take stringent action next time,” warned another FDA official.
