Overcoming various odds, including collapsed bridges and damaged roads, the Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services personnel toiled overtime on Friday and Saturday to a total of 158 people in distress. The personnel also assisted 236 people, who had gone to work, to reach their home as the bridge in Usgao was affected by floods.
In an official report released on Saturday, the department said personnel had attended to several calls in different parts of the State on Friday and Saturday. The report stated that Sattari and Bicholim in North and Dharbandora in South were among the worst affected talukas due to the floods.
Fire services personnel along with Drishti lifesavers carried out rescue operations in Harvelem (30), Valpoi and Massorde (25), Paddi and Honda (34), Padeli (24), Priol (11), Querim (10), Ganje, Takan, Keran (20) and Dabal (4).
