Highlighting the failures of the ruling BJP government in Goa, Goa TMC on Tuesday lambasted Pramod Sawant for deceiving Goenkars by peddling fake promises yet again. Rajya Sabha MP and TMC Goa co-incharge Sushmita Dev, Goa TMC vice-president Rajendra Kakodkar and Goa TMC general secretary Trajano D’Mello called out BJP’s lies point by point at a press conference held at the party office in Panaji.
At the onset, Dev said, “There is complete confusion and no clarity on the issue of mining. Why has the BJP failed to resume mining in Goa and why haven’t they been able to give a clear policy in the last 5 years? More importantly, they should first tell us who was responsible for illegal mining that saw losses to the tune of Rs. 35,000 crore?”
Reiterating Goa TMC’s commitment to Goans, Dev stated, “Goa TMC’s stand is very clear. Within 250 days of forming government, we will come up with a solution to the mining problem. We will ensure that it is sustainable and that the revenue generated through it comes back into the Goan economy.”
Attacking the BJP for rise in fuel prices, Dev said, “First, it is your government that hikes prices and then, just 3-4 months before elections you decide to reduce prices. Who are you trying to fool?” Furthermore, she asked, “If you have faith in your ‘Double Engine Government’ and the Ujjwala scheme which has apparently emancipated the lives of everyone, what is the need to promise 3 LPG cylinders to the people of Goa?”
Speaking on BJP’s poll promise named Manohar Parrikar Kalyan Fund, Dev said, “You are forced to introduce this because you are cutting a sorry figure in the seat of Panaji. This is nothing but a cheap attempt to stop Parrikar’s son.”
Exposing the BJP-Congress nexus, Kakodkar said, “Between 2007 and 2012, Congress party was involved in many irregularities wherein BJP was their partner in crime. Between 2012-2022, it was the other way round. The BJP protected this Congress+BJP mining syndicate facilitating a loot of Rs 35,000 crores.”
Speaking on another pressing issue, D’Mello said, “With the Mormugao Port Trust now becoming Mormugao Port Authority, the people of Goa have no say in what happens to their resources. The BJP can now carry out construction on land assets within port limits without any reference to local town planning and development laws.”
He added, “The fishermen community will be badly affected because of BJP's attempt to privatize everything and anything they lay their eyes on. We must unite to protect our natural resources.”
