The Education Department on Monday issued a circular giving Higher Secondary Schools in the State a blanket nod to admit up to 15 per cent more number of students above their capacities in all the streams of Class XI.
The circular issued by Director of Education, Bhushan Sawaikar, said: “The Government has directed to permit every government and government-aided higher secondary school in the State to allow and admit 15 per-cent students apart from their normal/nominal intake capacity for the present academic year 2021-22 as per the prescribed rules in force.”
The circular will be in force only for the current academic year in all the four streams -- Arts, Science, Commerce and Vocational -- according to the circular.
However, HSSs will not be entitled to any additional financial grants, incentives or teachers, Sawaikar said in the circular.
HSSs in Goa had been struggling to manage the high demand following the nearly 99 per-cent pass percentage recorded at the SSC results released by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education in a year where for the first time no physical examination was conducted due to the pandemic.
