Emphasising that the government has taken all precautions to tackle the Omicron variant of Covid, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said it was important that maximum people get vaccinated with the second dose.
Sawant on Wednesday also stated that around 1.30 lakh people in the State were yet to get vaccinated with the second dose.
“My request to every Goan who has taken the first dose should take the second dose as early as possible. Approximately 1.30 lakh people are yet to take their second dose in the State. It is very important that maximum people take the second dose of the vaccination,” Sawant said.
He said if, by chance people who have taken the second dose get infected with the Omicron variant of Covid, there is very little possibility for those patients to get seriously infected.
“People’s safety is primary to us. It is important for Goa to be declared 100 per cent safe destination for tourism and stay purpose,” he said.
He said the entire team in the health department and at various PHCs, CHCs, RMDs have been organising a Tika Utsav every Saturday and people should take advantage of the facilities.
The CM informed that the State government was taking all necessary precautions to keep a check on the Omicron variant.
He said the five persons who were recently identified and suspected to have contracted the new Covid variant have been isolated and their samples have been sent for genome sequencing to detect Omicron to a lab in Pune.
“I have been monitoring the condition of the patients. They are in good health and recovering. After coming to India from Russia, on the 12th day they tested positive. There is less chance of them contracting Omicron,” he said.
