PANAJI
The Corportion of the City of Panaji's (CCP) frenzy of installing road signages and advertising in the city has prompted a complaint over its legality.
The Goa RTI Forum has alleged the installation of advertising signages in Panaji is unauthorized and asked the Chief Secretary among other authorities to investigate and take action.
Apart from the Chief Secretary, the complaint letter has been also marked to the North Goa Collector, CCP Commissioner, Superintendent of Police (traffic) and the Chief Engineer of PWD.
Terming the installations "unauthorized," the RTI forum said the advertising boards put up near the Old Secretariat, on 18th June Road and its connecting roads besides a few other locations in the city have no legal sanctity and violate laws.
"There is no Collector’s notification which is mandatory for such installations," Sandeep Heble, the joint secretary of the forum said in the letter, adding that no tender process has been followed.
Heble also said, no permissions from the CCP or a resolution from the capital city's civic body exists.
Among other violations cited by Heble include lack of clearances from other government departments such as Electricity Department or Traffic Police which are necessary under the laws.
"Furthermore, such installations are putting traffic safety at serious risk and damaging the city’s aesthetic beauty and environment," Heble's letter added.
Heble urged the authorities to investigate the unauthorized installations and impose appropriate penalties or take other immediate action as the laws provide.
