Making Goa safe for tourists top priority: DGP Shukla

Newly-appointed Director General of Police Indra Dev Shukla has said his top priority is to make Goa a safe destination for tourists visiting the State.

"I am well aware of the situation in the State. Tourist safety will get highest priority”, Shukla said in an interaction with media on Tuesday.

The top cop who is familiar with the State also spoke in Konkani, saying keeping check on narcotics trade in the touristic State will also be his priority.

Outlining other areas that needed attention, Shukla said ensuring the smooth flow of traffic would also be addressed. “There are problems of parking on some of roads… we will promote green corridors for smooth transport", he said.

The DGP also said that he would try to create a culture of courteous policing. "I do not want any policemen to misbehave with any citizen. Absolutely not. I need my policemen while talking, while behaving to be helpful to everyone, whether it is citizens, tourists or others", he said.

He said he would also focus on making the police force well equipped with advanced technology gadgets. 

Earlier, speaking on his arrival at the Dabolim airport, the new DGP has said he would offer good governance to Goa. 

"This is my home place and I cannot explain about my happiness. I want to serve the people of Goa with my police force and we will deliver the best governance here", he said. 

Shukla had earlier served as the superintendent of police in Goa and will now replace DGP Mukesh Kumar Meena who has been transferred to Delhi.
