Metrology dept seizes goods worth Rs 10 lakh

A massive drive was carried out by Department of Legal Metrology throughout Goa on Friday to inspect dry fruits and other related packages under the provision of Legal Metrology Act 2009, read with Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011 and seized goods worth of Rs 10 lakhs of cashew nuts, chocolates and other dry fruits.

In Salcete, five cases were booked by the Office of the Legal Metrology, Margao and seized 396 packages of cashew nuts of 500g, 71 packages of rasin of 500g, 55 packages of almonds of 400g, 118 packages of spices and 361 packages of chocolates, for violation of mandatory declaration as required under Legal Metrology Act 2009.
The raid was led by Nitin P Purushan, Asst Controller, Legal Metrology, South Zone-1, Margao along with Gulam A Gulburg, Asst Controller, Legal Metrology, North Zone, Mapusa, Bhupendra U Dessai, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Margao-l, Azen R Rodrigues, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Margao-ll, Vikas V Kandolkar, Inspector, Legal Metrology, Vasco and assisted by Sudhir K Gaonker and Samir C Khanapurkar.
