Former Deputy Chief Minister and Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party leader Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavlikar on Wednesday said Goa should take the cue from lockdowns being announced in UK and other European nations and disallow the controversial Electronic Dance Music festival Sunburn this year.
Citing the UK government's decision to declare another month-long lockdown, Dhavlikar said: "The Goa cabinet should take it seriously. We too must be alert."
Dhavalikar, who addressed the media in the capital city said, 'Sunburn' should not be permitted this year.
The generation of revenue cannot be the only criteria to go ahead with such events, Dhavlikar said.
The announcement of Sunburn by the event's franchise 'Percept Live' raised a furore earlier this week in the face of the ravaging Covid situation. Goa has the highest per million mortality rate from the virus infection among States in the country.
Cabinet minister, Michael Lobo however has said the permissions granted for Sunburn are conditional and linked to the Covid-19 situation around the December end schedule of the EDM.
