Accusing Chief Minister Pramod Sawant of double standards on the proposed IIT project at Melauli-Guleli, the Valpoi Congress has warned that the agitation against the project would continue till the project is moved out of the area.

“A few days ago, Sawant had inspected the site of the proposed IIT at Melauli and had admitted there are cashew cultivations in the area. Now, he suddenly insists that the IIT project will go ahead at the same site,” said Valpoi Block Congress President Dashrath Mandrekar, while addressing a news conference on Wednesday evening.

Other Valpoi Congress members also criticised Health Minister and local MLA Vishwajeet Rane claiming that he had not been attentive to several problems in Valpoi constituency.

Claiming that roads at many places in the constituency are in bad condition and unemployment is also on the rise, the members claimed that Rane should meet people in the constituency if he has the courage to do so and put forth his stand on the IIT project.

Others present at the news conference included Mahila Congress Group Committee Chairperson Roshan Desai, General Secretary Nandkumar Kopardekar, Executive Committee members Suresh Kodalkar and Mohammad Khan.
