With a week to go for the Christmas midnight masses held outdoor at Parishes across the state, Aam Admi party (AAP) Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas has dashed of a letter to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant with a plea to amend the corrigendum notification incorporating relaxation for use of amplified sound for religious services (midnight mass) on Christmas eve and Christmas day.
In his letter, Venzy requested for medication in the corrigendum dated December 15 to the notification of February 2022, in order to permit use of amplified sound for the religious services (midnight mass) traditionally conducted by Churches of the Christian community across cross Goa on the intervening mid-night of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, that is December 24 and 25.
He further stated that the same provision be also provided for similar religious services (midnight) mass again traditionally celebrated across Goa on the intervening night of New Year Eve and New Year Day, that is December 31 and January 1, 2023
Reminding that holding midnight masses at the Parishes on the eve of Christmas day has been a tradition in Goa for decades, the Benaulim MLA has urged the government to respect this tradition of Goa's minority community.
