Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) on Wednesday constituted a team to clear encroachments on roadsides and footpaths in the municipality from Januar 4, 2021.
When contacted, MMC Chief Officer Angelo Fernandes said the MMC had received several complaints regarding encroachments in the jurisdiction.
“The MMC had also received directives from Traffic Police and DMA to clear encroachments and evict roadside vendors, hawkers and kiosks. We will carry out a drive to clear encroachments on municipal roads, municipal footpaths and road widening area spaces.”
“We have constituted a team comprising Riya Naik (Accounts and Taxation officer), Sadashiv Harmallar and Sandra Rodrigues (Upper Division Clerk), Yogesh Dessai and Sebastiao Pereira (Assistant Municipal Inspector) and Prakash Harijan (Senior Supervisor). This team will operate directly under my control and supervision,” said the chief officer.
Fernandes said he had directed the team to carry out the drive from January 4, 2021 and submit the compliance report to him.”
“The store and maintenance section of MMC will provide gas cutters, workers, vehicle and other equipment for the anti-encroachment drive," said Fernandes.
