NGO Niz Goenkar Fauz on Thursday petitioned the transport department to act against motorists using vehicles without number plates and dark window tints in the port town.
The NGO members also submitted a memorandum to the Dy Director of Transport Rajesh Naik demanding strict action on traffic violators.
Speaking to media persons, Niz Goenkar Fauz member Suresh Naik said the NGO had observed that many motorists in Mormugao taluka have been driving vehicles with no number plate or with dark window tints.
"These bikes and cars are also seen engaging in speeding and racing activities thus dangerously driving without any fear while also violating traffic norms laid down by the Traffic department and RTO.”
“There are many hit-and-run cases in the taluka. Such vehicles with no number plates or dark tints can easily escape from the accident spot after hitting a human or animal as no one will be able to notice their involvement," said Naik.
"We also feel that many of such people are connected to the police and politicians who are the law makers. This must not be allowed nor tolerated as the general public has to suffer. We have demanded that action be taken on them under Sections 183 and 177 A of the Motor Vehicle Act and cancel their vehicle registration, if found guilty," said Naik.
