Elections for four of the 17 comunidade bodies in South Zone could not take place as scheduled on Sunday for want of quorum.
With this, the number of comunidade bodies from South Goa, which could not elect the managing committees for want of quorum to eight. Last Sunday, elections for the comunidade bodies of Chandor, Sarzora and Assolna in Salcete, besides Jacqui Nundem comunidade body in Sanguem could not take place for want of quorum.
Of the remain 13 comunidade bodies that went to the elections on Sunday, there was a contest for the posts in respect of the Nagorcem-Palolem comunidade body and part election for the Benaulim body.
comunidade officials on Sunday informed that the elections for the comunidade bodies of Guirdolim, Sirlim, Telaulim in Salcete, besides Xic Xelvona in Quepem could not take place for want of the required quorum.
The official further pointed out that barring the comunidade of Nagorcem-Palolem, all the other Comunidade bodies got their managing committees elected unopposed. In the case of Benaulim comunidade, officials informed there was a contest for the post of President and Treasurer, while the post of Attorney was elected unopposed.
Elections for the comunidade bodies in South Goa had begun on December 8 and the entire election process will end only on January 19. Elections are held for the election of new managing committees only on Sundays.
