In line with Class X, the Goa Board has announced implementation of Compensation Scheme for students who fail to clear Class IX in the academic year 2024-25. However, the scheme would be made applicable only if the student passes after applying it.
The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) in a set of instructions issued to the schools with regards to passing criteria for Class IX students, has said that even if the students who do not meet the compensation scheme criteria will be allowed to keep terms (ATKT) for Class X, despite failing in all the core subjects.
The Board said that if the student fails to clear two Class IX subjects while appearing for Class X board exam, then the result of Class X would be withheld for two successive academic years.
This is the first year when the Class IX batch will pass out after the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) for the grade. The results would be announced post April 30.
The subjects are divided into Core subjects-Language 1, 2, 3, Social Science, Science and Mathematics and Skill-based subjects are Interdisciplinary area, NSQF/Others, Art Education and Physical Education.
Under the compensation scheme, if a student fails in any two core subjects, he or she will be considered to have passed Class IX if they have scored at least 65 per cent in any two skill-based subjects and a minimum of 50 per cent in the other two skill-based subjects.
“If the candidate fails to obtain a minimum passing grade in the core subjects, a maximum of two out of six core subjects will be upgraded under this scheme,” the Board said.
The Board said that the students will be allowed to keep term even after failing in three subjects provided he or she meets the compensation scheme criteria. The third subject of his or her choice must be cleared through supplementary exams.
With implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) for Class X, the Goa Board has scrapped its age-old grace marks scheme while introducing what is called Compensation scheme. The scheme will be made applicable to only those students who are remarked as “needs improvement”.
