The National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa unit has urged Goa Governor and Chancellor of Goa University PS Sreedharan Pillai demanding not to grant consent to abolish Ordinance OA-25 that is concerned with challenging the evaluation of exam papers in the varsity examinations.
“This ordinance serves as a crucial tool for students to address instances of perceived injustice in the examination correction process. As such, its removal would severely undermine the rights and academic integrity of students, particularly those in professional fields such as Engineering, Medicine, and Law,” NSUI Goa chief Naushad Chowdhari said.
In a memorandum submitted to the Governor, NSUI said that Challenge Evaluation allows students to seek a review of their examination papers if they believe that errors or discrepancies have occurred during the grading process.
“In fields where precision and accuracy are paramount, such as Engineering, Medical, and Law, even minor discrepancies of 1-2 marks can have significant implications for students' academic and professional futures. The abolition of OA-25 would deprive students of the opportunity to seek redress and would erode trust in the examination system,” they said.
NSUI has also demanded that the fees charged for evaluation should be reduced from Rs 5000 per paper to Rs 1200-Rs 1500 per paper.
