PANAJI: Passengers can now take photos and videos inside terminal buildings of civil airports and civil enclaves, but the ban on in-flight photography at defence airports, including Goa’s Dabolim, Leh, Srinagar, and Jammu, will remain, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant informed the House today.
Reading out a directive from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the CM said, “Photography is now permitted inside terminal buildings of civil aerodromes and civil enclaves. However, taking photos or videos from inside an aircraft is still not allowed at defence aerodromes.”
The restriction, he added, is part of enhanced security protocols at strategic airports, especially those near India’s western border.
“These measures are meant to prevent the capture of sensitive military activity or infrastructure,” Sawant said, noting that Goa’s Dabolim Airport, which operates from a naval base, falls under this category.
In addition, the DGCA has mandated that window shades remain closed during take-off and landing, especially below 10,000 feet, at such locations. Airlines have also been directed to issue pre-flight announcements and install clear signage to inform passengers.
“All airlines must ensure that travellers are made aware of these restrictions through announcements and visual displays,” Sawant stated.
