Upset over the election of some opposition councillors to the Carnival sub-committees, the ruling BJP group of Mapusa Municipal Council has called for another meeting on Friday ostensibly to elect new members to various Carnival committees.
Mapusa Municipal Council Chairperson Priya Mishal has reportedly re-convened a meeting of councillors after some the ruling BJP councillors opposed the election of councillors Shashank Narvekar and Komal D’Souza as chairman of Carnival sub-committees.
Mapusa Council Vice Chairperson Chandrashekar Benkar said the meeting conducted on Wednesday to elect various Carnival committees was faulty and therefore it has to be declared as null and void. He said new members will be elected on Friday.
A close-door meeting was held in the Chairperson’s cabin on Thursday evening and local journalists were denied entry for the meeting apparently fearing a backlash of negative publicity.
“The cat is out of the bag. Now, the whole of Mapusa and entire Goa will know how blatant irregularities are happening in Mapusa Municipal Council and who is the architect behind this,” a councillor said.
