A persistent technical fault in the National Generic Document Registration System (NGDRS) has disrupted operations at the Salcete Sub Registrar Office for three consecutive days, causing widespread inconvenience to advocates and citizens alike.
The glitch, reportedly due to a server slowdown, has been attributed to the National Informatics Centre (NIC), according to officials at the Salcete Sub Registrar Office. The NGDRS platform, responsible for managing online deed registration and time slot allocation, has collapsed intermittently, leading to rescheduling chaos and public frustration.
People expressed frustration, questioning the government's ability to provide efficient services despite collecting substantial stamp duty and registration fees.
“The Salcete Sub Registrar Office is generating revenue running into lakhs of rupees every day for the government. When specific time slots are given to the parties, it is the duty of the office to honour the timeline. There cannot be any excuses, whether the system or the server is down,” remarked a visibly agitated citizen.
When contacted, Salcete Sub Registrar Suraj Vernekar conceded that the functioning of the office has been hit because of the slowdown of the server. “The situation started last week. We have already reported to the NIC to rectify the fault. We have received information from NIC officials saying they are working to address the problem. We have two technical partners, including NIC. We have reported to both of them. The NIC has to rectify it since the matter falls in their domain,” Vernekar added.
