One of Goa's top industrialists Shrinivas Dempo who came up with a surprise by revealing that his group will be investing in hospitality and also power co-generation here in Goa, is hopeful of the State's prospects to attract investments.
He however is suggesting showcasing of Goa as an international investment destination in sectors considered as new-age industry -- warehousing, logistic, IT and others -- saying these offer a huge opportunity to the youth of the State.
He also said, Goa cannot invite very heavy industry as there is a lot of opposition regarding polluting industries.
Dempo, who currently heads the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI), was appreciative of the 'Invest Goa 2024' initiative as it was an opportunity for industrialists to come together, network and see what the state is offering.
He said, the recent changes in the rules and regulations of the Goa IDC, a determined effort and focus to attract investment is visible.
"Goa being small has limitations, that is why we say the focus should be on new-age industry and service industry which would be ideally suited to have a catalytic effect on its GSDP," Dempo said, adding that the new rules have focussed on industrial plots occupied by sick industries.
According to him GIDC's new rule permits an industry which has gone sick to have a go at reviving itself or do some other activity within the plot. The last option is to gain an incentive to part with the plot.
