Student assaulted: Curchorem school seeks Edu dept's okay to suspend teacher

PANAJI

The Curchorem based aided school has sought education department approval to suspend their  physical education teacher for allegedly assaulting a student from Class IX, pending inquiry.

An FIR has also been registered against the teacher by Curchorem police following a complaint filed by parents. The incident allegedly took place last week after the student misbehaved and created a disturbance in the classroom.

Speaking to The Goan, Director Education Shailesh Zingade confirmed that the school management has sought his approval for suspending the PE teacher to conduct inquiry.

"The order is yet to be issued. We cannot suspend a teacher from aided school. We can only grant approval if the school sends report," he said.

Reports suggest that the student suffered significant neck injuries as a result of the alleged assault.

According to the sources, the school had received several complaints against the teacher, which were ignored.
