Two youth from Vasco drowned in a waterfall at Savarde-Sattari on Monday evening.

The incident is reported to have taken place at about 4 pm, when a group of eight youth from Vasco had gone to the seasonal waterfall.

Two youth from Vasco began to struggle in the waterfall and the other youth made futile efforts to save them. One youth was pulled out from the river, but he had breathed his last.

Since there is no mobile network in the area, the friends rushed to Kumthol and contacted the Valpoi police and the Valpoi fire services.

A police team and a fire brigade began a search of the other body, but were not successful till late Monday evening and operations are expected to resume on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, locals have expressed concerns as visitors from other parts of the State are visiting the many waterfalls in Sattari and a number of mishaps and tragedies have taken place. They have demanded a ban on visitors to these waterfalls.
